My boyfriend is going to school to be an airplane mechanic. He graduates in December of this year.

He currently has a job making 13.33 dollars an hour (working at an airport) and he'll be making 50,000 dollars starting in Jan. of 08.

My step dad has his own landscaping business and makes close to a million dollars per year (I'm not spoiled..key word 'STEP' dad..the guys a jerk)...

My boyfriend sees the income that my step-dad gets and he likes what he sees. He doesnt want to do it as his primary job, but while we're saving money for a house he wants to cut grass for some extra pocket money. He has a trailor, a mower, and a dependable truck...he also got an "LLC" ..(so that if he gets sued for some reason they cant take the house/etc...) .. and he knows he has to get insurance.

Is this a good idea?

I'm going to make some flyers for him this weekend and we're going to go around and put them up in stores/peoples houses..

Suggestions??

Sounds pretty good except for one small change - grass is to be cut on the top, not on the side.

The grass is always greener on the other side. There is joy and fun and excitement and passion and the sex is over the top hot. Then when you get there life takes over. There will be work and kids and whatever takes the place of the fire department, such as the guys, drinking, etc. What you have is the regular tolls of life pulling the passion out of your life. It is easier to get it somewhere else that is new. If you are not dis-satisfied with your partner or there is some reason for moving on you are wrong to pursue the fun filled romance you can have with another. What you need to consider is how are you going to feel when your BF finds out you are sleeping around. If you are considering the other guy why can't you tell your BF that you are leaving before you do it. You are confused and it is a hard place to be in. Work on getting the excitement back into your current relationship. I do not hear any reason to abandon it in your question except the excitement. It is true though it is greener on the other side until the rain stops and the grass starts to die. You are in a drought, do a rain dance your partner may like it.

Sounds like a great idea. If your boyfriend is willing to do some extra work to help put money back for your future, that is great. Plus, he can always quit the landscaping when he gets bored with it and just focus on his real career.

I used to landscape and cut grass on the side for about 10 years and it was a nice supplemental income. Good Luck with the business.

suggestions on working or should he do it... Sounds like he already started down the path to do it... I would recommend that you take inventory of what you have and what you buy for the business to use as an expense... Also make sure he does not take too many jobs because it may affect his ability to do the job correctly.... And an appointment book or calendar with lines to appropriately get appointment correct.... Also see if in your area you need to charge a certain tax rate...

Sure. It's a good business. I have friends that do that too, and have good success. But he's got to know how to price his work, and he's got to be able to provide excellent service. If the job he does is less than excellent, he won't get many callbacks.

He will work harder than he thinks, and make less money than he thinks. It takes time to build a business.
