Elemental mages are mages who control one of four elements: Air, water, fire, and earth. An elemental mage is someone who has a strong magical (and/or mental) connection with their element. You can branch out, too: For example, an Earth mage might be good with plants as well as dirt. Or cloth, because earth grows cotton.

In some cases, there are a handful of mages in a world who control all FOUR elements. These mages are vastly powerful and could take over the world.

How they get their powers really depends on the magic system in your novel. They sometimes get it by training with an Elemental: a spirit of that element. Or they get it by bonding with that element for years. Or they have a natural gift. This is my favorite explaination.

I hope this helps with your novel. Good luck!

Also, Google is a powerful tool. Enter all of the things you want to know ("Information mages elemental magic") and hit enter. You'd be surprised how many people love this stuff.

If it's for a novel, either make it up or read a book on elemental magic.

They get their "powers" after years, sometimes decades, of dedicated research. These are not things that a person can explain to you. They are things that you would have to care about understanding, and then spend years contemplating and trying to understand.

That said, if you're writing a novel, just make it up. It's not like someone interested in performing elemental magic is going to use your book as an instruction manual.

If you can understand the book, I would recommend Aleister Crowley's 777 and Other Cabalistic Writings, which lists the correspondences linking the elements to other things, although it is not a book about "elemental magic". All magic is elemental in nature.

One word for you: Druids
google it, and everything you need you can find there.

Disregard a certain "Top Contributor's" inane response to your question. Obviously, he can't read well or suffers from some variant of ADHD, or he would have noticed that you qualified your question by stating you were writing a book.
As for the smart-aleck who made the God/directions slam.....
Your flagging self esteem didn't go up even a notch in my estimation. In fact, it only showcases your and some others pathetic need to put others down, so you can build yourself up.
I'm sure you've heard this before, but at the risk of being redundant: GROW UP

You realize that this is all fantasy, and will NOT work in real life? ~
