Does this charge apply to mail from the United States to a foreign country? I suppose there is some kind of maximum envelope thickness allowed at least. But I was just wondering if there is an extra charge for sending a not uniformly flat envelope overseas.

The following is the official USPS page for calculating postage rates. Input the physical details of your mail and determine your rates.

You're welcome

You can use a Global Express envelope to mail the item. The charge is by weight. Go to www.usps.com for more information, or call 1-800-ASK-USPS.

Make sure it doesn't have a clasp on it and if it does, cut it out.

You can use a bubble envelope. There shouldn't be an extra charge. It goes by weight.

in situations like that i always add extra postage...just in case, because ive had a few returned to me for insufficient postage because of thickness :) but i find that instead of 1 stamp i add 2 ( example) it works
