Easiest way to tell is look on the underside of the pan--if it says "metric"--it's a TH200, if not, it's a TH350. Also the pans are physically different---go to a parts store and buy a pan gasket for a TH200 and TH350 and match up which one fits the pan bolt pattern on your trans and return the other one...I think the 200 had two notched corners and the 350 had one angle cut corner. If it's a TH2000, better to have it replaced with a TH350 when it goes out as they had lots of problems with them in mid or full-size cars especially with the torque of a V-8 engine.TH350 should be plenty good for a Malibu wagon. A good shop should be able to do the swap.
As far as the a/c goes, it's better to leave the system in place in case you want to sell, the new buyer may want to repair the system to work. If you really want to remove it, it won't hurt the heater to leave the evaporator in place in the duct by the firewall...just disconnect the a/c lines running to it and tape off the fitting's openings. Then remove all the other related components under the hood...lines, condenser, compressor, accumulator, etc...

most likely in 1979......you have a 200metric transmission.....you can replace it with a turbo350 or 400 transmission....either one is a much more Superior Transmission..........good luck........dodge man must have forgotten about the metric tran,s.

it was probably a 350 turbo that would have came in it stock, that's what most of them had in them back then, that and the turbo 400 was the most popular one,if it has a modulator valve on the back side of it it is a turbo 350 ,good luck with it.
