Sonia initially & for all these days tried three male names from Congress for President of India. All these were summarily shot down , inter alia ,by her own associates in the UPA itself.
Finally as a LAST resort, a name of this non controversial (and non performing ) female cropped up as a compromise candidate.
Pratibha had done no solid field work, & hence was comparatively free from any scams . In every respect she is mediocre.(Like Nitrogen gas.)Hence there was no opposition to her name from anyone.
Now Sonia is yelling from Rooftops that this selection of a female is her most revolutionary step in the annals of India . If that were indeed so, then why did she not suggest this name in the very first place? She prevaricated till THE LAST stage, that too out of disappointment faced, when all her male nominees were decisively rejected . Except merit, other irrelevent considerations like caste & creed mattered more in this selection. Height of Sonia's hypocricy this is !!

How can Congress tomtom Pratibha Patil.. while they were thinking that Sonia's first choice (Shivraj Patil whom she made cabinet minister although he lost the Lok sabha election)was to be tom tomd. In fact Congress has no say.
They can only tomtom.. Sonia and she wants them that way.
Others have no choice to say.. her tune. they have to play.

I am sure Mrs. Pratibha Patil will be a great replacement for Mr. APJ Abdul kalam. She is a simple and clean politician, with lot of knowledge about the constitution of India. Sonia may have many other political motivations behind this decision, I am not questioning that. May be Sonia did a wrong move from her own political future perspective - her chances of becoming prime minister is less now since the president would be already a woman!

Though the president is a rubberstamp, He is the ceremonial head and he must be a respectable person. Did you see Pratiba's press conference? Her answers were enough to conclude that she will be an excellent puppet for Sonia and she was under qualified for the job. Pratiba will be an excellent emotional appeal as the event of her winning will make her the 1st women president. Sonia will play this card to defeat Shekawatji. The Indian democracy has hit a new low due to the Italin Indian Hipocracy.
I think the so called 3rd front will rally around to support Pratiba as she is a women.
President should be elected based on merit but it seems the election will be on the basis of sex.

Fine analysis. But why the perfect Dr.Kalam was dropped by erstwhile proposers and parties,sir.
How he was best unanimous candidates 5 years back, and now thrown by every parties including Cong & BJP.
Even for the selection of a candidate by UPA for contesting can generate so much of heat, she has made her succesful entry into the fry.So much jitters even from on lookers. Good.

after nominated name of pratibha patil as presidential candidate i remember one cartoon of mr.R.K.Laxman of 1982.
All MLA'S and congressman standing in one line and Indiraji point out one person indicating his fin gar to him and told "Hey You are Chief Minister Of Maharashtra from tomorrow" OK By the way What is your Name?
today all politician wants president not active but like that who works as per there guideline.
