You need to look up the blueprints for the towers. Their construction was not typical it was a series of columns around the outer edge and another series of columns toward the center. This design allowed the buildings to sway which is essential for very tall structures. This particular design is dependent on all of the columns being in place for the weight to be distributed evenly. At the height the building was impacted what occurred was that the plane took out some of the columns and this set up a domino effect. Once enough columns on the impact floors collapsed the weight above fell this resulted in column failure all the way down floor by floor .
