I have two side pieces to my entertainment center that I want to faux wood grain. They are a smooth finish. Some sort of a imitation wood grain effect, on a type of laminate. They are a blond color, and I want to change them to walnut. Does anyone have some expertise on this subject? Hope so. Thanks in advance.

I bought this tool called a rocker. it is awesome!!!! I did my kitchen cabinet doors faux wood. I primed them & put a dark brown on them & let it dry. I put a lighter brown on top of that, then dragged the rocker over it(you rock it back & forth as you drag it-hence the name). turned out excellent!!!! gives the look & texture of real wood

Refacing or painting are your options. Also update cabinet hardware. Try painting cabinets different colors, and put an artwork on the wall that complements all the colors you use. You will achieve a unique look which will please the renters. If you feel adventurous, try a cool painint technique, like sponging or stenciling. Go to the library and get a home decorating book for ideas. Good luck!

cheezy got the right tool for the job. it works really well. I've even stained plastic this way. take 100 grit sand paper and brush a light coat of stain on the sides. give it about 3 hours to dry. then put anothe coat on and use the tool to make your grain pattern. after you use the graining tool wait about 3 more hours and and spray some lacquer polyurthane on it and it will dry very quickly. I like to use the spray poly in a spray can its less messy and you can get it in different shines, gloss and satin. you need to experiment on something thats not of use to see what you want to do with the tool. its the best way to get use to it and get the type of pattern you like. hope this helps and good luck !!
