Jeans have been around for 150 years. Probably animal skins or wool pants.

Linen, silk & wool have been around for centuries, but cotton was available long before denim jeans were made in the 1800's.

Cotton print dresses for women....the worst were the polyester double knit fabrics of the 60's.

Men wore wool or linen pants and shirts.

Girls only started wearing jeans in the 50's....unless they had male tendencies. Women/girls wore dresses and casual "slacks" and men wore "leisure suits" and cotton pants. Jeans rock....my favorite thing to wear.
