It all depends where you live..
in the NYC area you're right they suck...
It is nothing like it used to be when I was a kid..

But if you go to South Jersey or Long Island.. those
stations are really good..

Also another reason is that people listen to their ipods
cd's etc more than the radio.

It's because radio station management pretty much have tossed out QUALITY and put BUSINESS BOTTOM LINE in it's place.

That travesty happened in the early 80's....when MTV punched those in the radio broadcast business. Ten years later, satellite radio became an fast hot emerging business fad--pink slipping many radio broadcasters, sparing only a few.

And let's face it: WE HATE AUTOMATED RADIO!!! It's robotic moronic sounding....and evidently, radio station MANAGEMENT does not care!!!! Why should they? They fired all their staff, replacing them with a machine...and THAT'S what you hear and think suck....and you want to know something???

You're 100% right.

Shut down the machines and put humans back behind the mikes, giving a local home feel to a radio station's sound....and you revive back what has been lost for so long.

The following FM radio stations in the Philippines are among the 90% of the stations that suck (call signals only): DZMB, DWKY, DWKC, DWLS, DWYS, DWRR, and DWSM. However, Jam 88.3, Wave 89.1, Magic 89.9, 99.5 Hit FM, Heart 1035 FM & Kilerbee FM (in the provinces) ARE NOT among the 90% of those radio stations. In fact, they are the best in the Philippines. In America, it varies widely. What is the reason why radio is bad? It is because of Advertising Pressure, Bad choice of Music, and a retarded listenership. Can't we just change, people?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!
The bottom line is the bottom line.
The industry has always been guilty of playing it safe. An old saying in radio is "If it aint broke, dont fix it." The problem is its getting worse and worse. Republicans have made it increasingly harder to encourage creativity. In recent years ownership laws have been so relaxed to the point where the radio is owned by three individual mega corperations. The days of the independent radio station are long, long gone. Consultants are paid mega bucks to tell radio stations the exact same thing all over the country. Its the 'formula'.

There are several good stations out there. One of them is 100.3 the ride from Colby, Kansas. Unfortunately I'm on the very edge of the broadcast range.

Try finding an online radio station you like. They offer a lot more music and a lot fewer commercials and are free.

Satellite radio is fine, I'm sure, but it costs money. The only good, free radio listening these days is from college stations. Most urban areas have at least one, and some of us are blessed with multiple college stations. Find one in your area and give it a listen. And some of them netcast on the Web, so you can listen anywhere.

AM radio has switched to mostly "News Talk" in the last 20 years and FM has unfortunately started doing more commercials and less music, with so many DJ's that suck as well.
I've switched to mostly Sirius and XM satellite radio, I prefer Sirius of the two.
There are some good online stuff but it takes research and time to find.
Email me some of your interests and I might be able to help you out some. Thanks.

You are listening to the wrong radio, broadcast stations are almost all owned by the same few companies now, so they all cater to the "lowest common denominator"...

Try XM or Sirius satelitte, they both have 100+ stations each dedicated to a specific genre or mix of genres.

My ex husband was a dj and this is what he would tell you is wrong with radio...automation. They want to put everything on tape. A canned "dj", canned music...automated and syndicated.
In other words, they pulled the personality right out of the airwaves.
I can remember when it was actually exciting to listen to the radio.
