A country can be a Republic & still democratic. Once a country have a President as its Head of State, thereby making its own decisions, it is a Republic. The fact that the President is elected by the citizens at regular intervals shows democracy. In some countries, the President is in that position for life but he have a prime minister who runs the country & who is elected by the citizens at regular intervals. This too is a Democratic Republic. This is similar to the English system whose Head of State is the Queen who is there for life (or until she chooses 2 step down), but the prime minister who runs the country under her, is elected by the people in elections. Any country whose head of state is a King or a Queen is called a monarchy. Any country whose head of state is called a President is a Republic.
Now the method of rule according to the country's laws (or ideaology) pertaining to its people's freedom of expression is where the democracy comes in.
No country though is truly 100% democratic, not even the US.

You are obviously not up on historical terms. Another uneducated person in the world making fun of Bush.
Democracy is an idealogy. A Republic is a type of government. Democracy can be the prevalent ideology in many types of governments.
