If the ball is important to you, then you have to start it rolling. If no one else gives it a kick, though, you should probably let it go.
Someone else may start a ball rolling that looks pretty good to you, and then you should feel free to jump on that one, even if you didn't start it off.
That's how I roll. (pun intended)

If you want the ball rolling soon, you start it. If you have plenty of time and don't care if it starts rolling or not, then wait for someone else to start it.
