Start with an induction kit, which replaces your air filter. Use a higher octane fuel, and if you want to shell out a bit more, for a couple of hundred pounds you can have uprated camshafts put in. After that, it's on to stuff like porting and polishing the head and manifolds, putting in a 4-branch exhaust manifold, and so on.

Hot Rod magazine showed a real VW with a jet engine in back.I don't know about cheap,but that should destroy just about anything or anyone.
