To be honest babies don't cry that much if at all really , I have had 4 children and they really only cry if there is a reason, it's the only way to tell you that something needs to be done for them, I mean , imagine if you were so helpless that you even needed someone to help you change position. A stiff neck would make me cry if I had no way of helping myself. The best way to prevent crying is to pre empt any discomfort , feed, change and reposition regularly, check them for discomfort , give them a change of scenery, cuddle them, check the temperature, only place them to sleep on a soft surface (baby bouncers can be hard) wash all their clothes in non bio powder, cut out all itchy labels in their clothes, give them a massage daily, make sure they don't have damp patches on them, peaceful times loud music 24/7 won't helpdon't wait for them to get sooo uncomfortable, bored, frustrated and hungry that they reach the point of no return and have a majorly stressed out crying fit, a little TLC and pampering prevents a lot of stress in the long run (aka mysterious colic) at bedtime. Good luck you'll make a great parent , just put yourself in their shoes, they're just as new to it all as you, learn together.

Well I have 2 kids One is 2 and the other is 6 months and they were both soo different my youngest doesn't sleep through the night yet had my son was doing it at 5 months you just have to learn as you go I really didn't do much research because once you have the baby everything falls into place and you'll know exactly what to do. As for the crying is depends on the baby if you decide on a pacifier it works miracles but some are just harder to comfort so good luck its going to be the best and craziest thing that will happen to you but you'll enjoy every minute of it

Not all babies cry ALL the time. At least mine didnt.

Both of my children cried only when hungry, wet, or not feeling well. The not feeling well part is sometimes hard to figure out if you are not sure because they can't tell you. It is a guessing game. You can read all the books you want to figure these things out, but I am sure they will have at least a million pages on what it could be. You just keep trying until you figure it out.

I am sure that you will amaze yourself about how quickly you learn the cries and then BOOM your baby will stop crying.

You should read either a Dr.Spock book or the one that comes highly recommended for new parents pregnant with first child, What to Expect When You Are Expecting. They also have a dad-to-be section.

Good luck and Congrats.

Relax!!!!! Let the shock wear off first, before you start fretting. You've got 7 months to go before it starts making any noise. Tiny babies can't be occupied and they cry for a reason. Don't worry. If you love your gf, you'll both cope. Child rearing happens every day of the week and no one is given a book on how to be the perfect parent. I'm sure you will be fine if you ask for help when you need it from friends and family.

Babies have reasons for crying and eventually after a couple of weeks you will be able to distinguish a hunger cry for a dirty diaper cry. It's all a part of parent hood and it will come naturally. If she is only 7 weeks just enjoy the pregnancy now and ask the doctor questions once you get closer to having the baby. I don't think that any book and get you ready for what is about to come! Good Luck and Congrats to the both of you. Babies are the best gift of life.

You just gotta learn to live with the crying; they don't come with an off switch. They are not in the phase for very long though - it will only be a few months out of your whole lifetime - and once they start to learn to speak and communicate the crying all but disappears in favour of other little delights such as tantrums and saying "no" constantly! Don't get too hung up by the fear of having a baby - the baby stage is just one part of it and its soon over. You have a whole person to look after for a whole lifetime, and they don't come with instructions!

Congratulations and good luck. xx

Aww Congratulations.
In answer to your question babies cry..quite a lot lol.
Usually for one of these reasons:
Hunger
Wet nappy
thirsty
company
and lastly discomfort.
The best way is to go through the list....usually its the first 4.
You will be fine and don't worry..the crying is just a small part of the joy that is a baby xxx

*edit*
Jeez Dan H...wind your neck in..thats a bit harsh isn't it?
He was only asking a freaking question, and one I might add that was quite reasonable

Hey .. you will be fine you will learn when the baby comes its common sense with babies when they are tiny they will sleep a lot they need feeding winding changing and bathing regular, as they grow older they become more of an handful so to speak but reading playing even just talking to a baby is good in the early years you will be fine and i had twins so double trouble for me !

Oh, don't panic. Babies do cry, then they grow out of it. Generally speaking, they cry if they're uncomfortable, hungry, or tired -but be prepared for random wailing of the unexplained variety. But...you will be so much in love with the little scrap, you'll put up with anything. The best stage of your life starts very soon - congratulations, and enjoy it. Before you know it, you'll be wanting another one.

Not all babies cry all the time, it's usually when they are hungry, in pain, or need changing. As long as you are patient with your baby and relaxed your baby will stop crying it's not to hard. good luck
