Why can women claim that they want a "nice guy" yet never go out with the ones that are readily available to them? Never had this personally happen to me, but it's a good question that a few guys I know ask.

Now that I have that out of the way. Most people get testy when people disagree with their opinions. Just because a man likes and admires intelligence doesn't mean he wants to be in a constant debate over what is and isn't. I like a good debate occasionally, but on my schedule if it happens to coincide with theirs. When I am sitting down and reading the news, I am not expecting input, from man, woman, or child. I want to READ.

Personally, I like a good debate with an intelligent woman. Having an opinion different from mine wouldn't make me angry but would make me interested in finding out more about why the other person feels the way they do. If a man is put off by an intelligent, independent woman with her own opinions, I would say he doesn't have the self esteem or self confidence to be in a relationship her.

I'm sorry, but it does depend upon what one refers to as 'intelligence,' and which 'particular men' are you referring to?

One woman I know who is described as 'intelligent' when it comes to dealing with children - and is Brilliant at what she does, but goes to pieces when the likelihood of conflicts arise with adults.

Given access to any form of weaponry, she'd likely be in jail as she tends to believe that everyone is out to fleece her rotten, and desires to Right what she sees as her being Wronged - often on the cusp of a perceived event.

That she has been proven 'In Error' so often, does nothing to change her behaviour either. And she is referred to as a Mature Intelligent Woman.

Sweeping Statements are Dangerous, and there is thinking which suggests that ''these thoughts Should NOT be Placed in the Hands of Women'' too.

I look for a woman to disprove this line of thinking.

Sash.

I don't think that most men do admire intelligence in a women, at least not in my experience. Both sexes can be intelligent, but it is the differences that we should be looking for, surely.

You know, I would love to know the answer to this myself! I had this happen to me already. I was dating a guy, and at the time I had a job with a marketing company. He always told me, be stronger, be better, open your own company and make a better life for yourself. I will stand behind you and help you. Well one day, I did break off from my job and did open my own marketing company.. He dumped me.. reason: He said that I am now too strongheaded and have too many of my own ideas!! Go figure

In a weird way, he did me a HUGE favor by pushing me to start my own company, which I am glad he did, even though it was something I did totally on my own without and of his backing. It changed my life for the better.. And I also have to thank him for dumping me because it made me realize that I do not need a relationship at this point of my life because I can now supply to myself everything I need. I do not need a guy to drag me down mentally and beat up on my mindset for being who I am.

I for one have spent most of my life with the people I consider true friends all being female, either there is part of me that is not all male or maybe I am the male that does accept that women ARE intelligent, we all are there are idiots in every society regardless of colour race or sex!

ha ha very amusing.! I think many men are motored by their ego and this varies depending on what their definition of what makes them a man is. Thankfully I'm with a real man, who isn't driven by his ego and who is an intelligent thinking so he welcomes my different opinions and we have good discussions but i know what you mean, it took 50 of the men you describe before I found my one who was worth it!

They claim to like intelligent woman just as long as they are not smarter than them. A smart business man is called tough but a smart business woman is called a *****. It is and always will be a double standard. Try being smart and blonde, now that's a really tough situation to be in.

I don't, I find it stimulating. The dimbo myth to me is a myth.
Give me a real woman any time, one who is my equal, will laugh at themselves and men, but does not want to be a man, as I don't want to be a woman.

I've never agreed with this idea that there is or should not be equality between men and women, only a biological difference, in every other respect men & women are equal.....
