Supposedly, because the Holden it was designed from didn't meet more stringent American safety specs, and GM decided it wasn't worth the extra cost of reworking the American version for a car that wasn't selling well. Or that the Holden was being redesigned, and GM decided it wasn't worth creating the left-hand drive version for America. That's two of the versions of the story I've heard, and in either case, it all comes down to cost. GM wasn't making enough on GTOs to have it be worth the money invested.
Originally it was that Holden was discontinuing the car that the GTO was based on, but I think now they were referring to a redesign that GM was unwilling to carry over to the American version.

I really like my American Holden Manaro GTO 2006 is the last of the V-8 supercars "road warrior" spice red 18" wheels modified SLP lould mouth 1 exhaust, Predatior Diablo Power programer, Hodkiss sway bars and K&N cold air intake. About 421 hp at the wheels. Pontiac will come out with the G-8 based on the smaller Holden Commodore next year with a slightly less powerfull LS-2 engine and four doors (lame) and even less exciting automatic only gear box... A letter writing campaign is in order to GM in MI. My GTO has been problem free at 11,000 miles and one year three months no days out of service...

I would get the GTO. I have a GTO, and I love it. Not sure if you are in to racing, but the GTO would be faster. If your a family person though, and need more back seat room, the G8 would be better sicne 4 doors.

I loved that car.
They stopped making it because they couldnt sell them with the rising gas prices and the Dodge Charger was outselling them like crazy.
Its too bad.
I have heard a rumor they were taking a couple of years off and going to return the GTO in a Judge model. They want to redevelop and beat the Charger.

Several possible answers.
1.Poor sales due to bland styling
2.On purpose to make it limited production like the Impala SS.
3.GM is bringing out the G8 from Australia.Better than anything we build

They stopped making them because of styling and they were'nt selling them. But the goat will be back if you go to google images you can see the concept version of them. It would be crazy if they did'nt use the camaro platform.

Beautiful car....Sleek, fast and sporty.
There may be an honory model created in the future but I don't think it will ever be mass produced.

Because they were so lame.
Poor styling, poor performance. Not really a good value.
GM needs to start competing! Their next hope is the Camaro, but with gas going up, it may be too late.

Because they were gay as hell, and nobody bought them.
Make them like this and I guarantee they will buy them:
