Hello! Many laptops have wireless adapters in them. If u have a wireless router u can easy establish a wireless network. Remember u need wireless cards on both laptops (if the laptops do not have attached) and a wireless router. If u have the router, the laptops will automatically connect to it. The last thing u have to do is to go control panel/network connections/setup a home or office network and the appropriate setup.

Hope i helped

Are the 2 on a LAN now? If so you are for all practical purposes already network capapble to do so.

If they are not on a LAN now, you have several choices:

1. Cheapest way - Connect the 2 with a CROSS cat 5 cable that connects the 2 LAN ports, set each with a static IP (I suggest pc 1 being 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.1.2 and on pc 2 the IP being 192.168.1.3, subnet 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.1.2; don't worry about DNS settings - these settings are made by clicking on network neighborhood, right clicking on LAN connector, selecting TCP / IP, clicking on properties, and setting the IP addresses).
2. Next Cheapest - purchase a 10/100 network switch, use 2 straight cat5 cables, set up static IP addresses as in # 1 above.
3. Next cheapest - Use a router which is configured to assign IP addresses via DHCP. If the router has built in LAN ports (at least 2 LAN ports) you don't need a network swich; if it has only 1 LAN port, you will need a network switch). In this case you assign LAN IP by DHCP from router and set the LAN ports to obtain IP address automatically (not static). If you wish to connect to the Internet you will need a router anyway and the modem connects to the wan port of router.
4. next cheapest - wireless router set up just like in # 3 BUT you use wireless link to router. You need wireless adapters on pcs and you need to configure wireless to communicate to router. Security is a big issue so be careful to address this.

Make sure both pcs are in the same Work Group (not critical but very helpful).

Once the network is connected and working you need to configure the files you wish to transfer as Network Shared files. On pc # 1 open Windows Explorer (right click Start, select explore). Right click on folders you wish to share on network and follow prompts to enable network share. Do this for ALL folders and subfolders you wish to be able to see from pc # 2. Do the same on pc # 2 so pc 1 can see folders on pc 2.

Now from pc 1, open Windows Explorer again, go to the bottom of the left column, click on + sign left of my network places, then + sign left of entire network, then + left of microsoft windows network. You should see the work group pcs; click + left of pc 2 and you will see the shared folders. Use copy and paste commands to transfer.
