What helped me with high notes, is, when there was a song that had high notes in them, I used to practice them in one key higher, then when I performed them in the right key, I could reach the high notes a whole lot easier! one of the keys I always had trouble with was C! So I used to practice, and practice it in D! Then when I performed at the club, I did it in C and had very little trouble hitting the high notes! One thing you should be careful of is, overworking or straining your vocal chords! Your vocal chords are a muscle, much like your leg muscles, and you should build them up gradually, so as not to strain them!
And no, your vocal range does not increase as you grow older, as a matter of fact it decreases! There are a few good singers that have been able to maintain their vocal range, but most of us old guys, start to lose it as we grow older!
