No surprise really. Just like I wasn;t surprised when he was released by Detroit.

There are coaches who are great assistant coaches because they only need to deal with specific issues, and the respect of the players rests on another coach's shoulder. Jim Playfair in Calgary is another example of that. With Sutter commanding the player's respect, Playfair was able to do his job well. When it came time for Playfair to gain the full respect of the players, he couldn't do it.

Dave Lewis was great as an assistant to Scotty Bowman, and his record as head coach in Detroit was directly attributable to the players and systems that Scotty left behind. The move to Boston exposed Lewis' lack of skills in the coaching arena, and unfortunately, Chiarelli felt it was time for Lewis to be relieved of his duties.

Wasen't at all. He tried hard in the begging but began to gave up as the season went on. He didn't have the greatest line up of skaters and seemed a little slow with things.

Not surprising when you consider the team missed the playoffs this past season....owners of teams first and foremost want their team to make the playoffs and when the team fails to do this, the coach is usually let go.
