I am looking for somewhere very nice for anniversary with my wife. Plan to go during the week so hopefully can find better rate but like something nice. Also interested in ideas for shows, places to see, etc

What do you think of Mandalay Bay? Looks like a nice, interesting place. Rates look OK, but on the higher side(?) so maybe that means nice inside?

Mandalay Bay is fab. It has the best pool in the city, IMO. Defintely worth it if that's part of the plan! It's at the South end of the Strip - so it can be a hike if you want to see the sights of the city. (However, there's cabs, the Deuce bus, a tram that runs to Excalibur, and a monorail.)
If you want something more centrally located, I'd go with Caesar's Palace, Paris, Bellagio, The Mirage, or Venetian. Those are pretty much right in the heart of the Strip.
As far as a review - not to sound cliche' or like a commerical, but Hotels.com is close to dead-on. Otherwise, check yahoo! travel for visitor reviews.

Mandalay Bay is very nice. It is higher in rate, and probably worth it. I have not been there, but know several people that have, and they loved it. It is on the south edge of the strip, right next to the Luxor. It is quite a hike to get to the other resorts on the strip, but that is why you take the monorail. It runs from Mandalay Bay all the way up to the Sahara, making about 4-5 stops in between, and the prices are very affordable.
As far as user reviews, I'd look at Yahoo! Travel, Orbitz, and Travelocity. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Went to the grand opening of the Mandalay Bay. All the rooms are like suites. The pool is fabulous and the reflection off the hotel in the afternoon means great sun tans. The surf is always up. The food is great. clubs are great. Its a quality Hotel... But.... There are very many quality hotels in Vegas. Figure out where you want to be and check in. Stay away from the Rio. it sucks. (never again)

Just returned from from Vegas and stayed at Harrah's. Had a very good stay. Prices are reasonable and is right in the center of the Strip so with a little walk you can easily get to Ceasear's, Mirage, Venitian, Falamingo, TI, Bellagio, Balley's and paris. Harrah's is not as upscale as Mandalay Bay but it is definetly not downscale either. Just nice with great service and a friendly atmosphere.

Good answer before mine. Mandalay Bay is a very hip hotel, really nice, contains generally a younger crowd. Just as nice, and a little more centally located, are the Mirage, and Caesar's Palace.
