"old" like it never gets old, out of style, come on you say you're a professor, you should know I meant it will never be answered and be around forever, not like its a brand new question. Idiot. As far as the other 2 answers, you missed the boat completely. Thanks!

"Never get old?" It's been old for centuries. The answer is the Weak Anthropic Principle, which states that we have a bias in the kind of universe it is possible to observe, and since we observe a universe, it must be one of a small subset of possible universes.

Simply put, if there were nothing, we would not be around to observe it. Therefore "There is nothing" is not a possible observation, while "there is something" is a possible observation. Since we observe, there is something.
