With the privatization of water supplies to cities and the phenomenal rise in bottled water and the media's implied distrust of the "tap", water is becoming a corporate commodity...and water IS our right, I am sure.
And before anyone tells me, yes the "details" was an editorial.

I understand your point.
Anyone that has to pay a regular water bill understands your point.
It won't be accesible on any outlet OTHER than buying it from those that have obtained all rights to it.
At that point, your only access to FREE water may well be just rain; snow; frost or dew.
It will become like oil is now.
Whoever owns the land where the water is will own the water and have control ot it.
When the land is completely owned and controled by big business, you won't be able to dig a well or fill up a jug at the river. It will be illegal.
When the air gets polluted enough, big business will find a way to have everyone pay for air as well.
They've been selling AIR FILTERS for years.

You are more than welcome to drill your own well. (Which can be a very pricey endeavor depending on the depth and size. The average cost is about $10,000.) That's what people do when they don't have a public water supply - which is generally looked upon as a service, a GOOD thing.

On third of the people on the planet do not have access to clean water. It is not a right. It is a commodity.

We pay less for our water in the United States than any other country on Earth that has water utilities that supply an endless stream of fresh water for use in toilets, dishwashers and washing machines. I filter my tap water for drinking - but would rather drink it unfiltered than rain water or water from the creek out back.

You have choices. Much of the world does not.

Water is not a right. It is a utility. Water service gets privatized when municipalities cannot handle it. Private water service employees can go anywhere they are needed and don't have to stop at township or borough borders. It is called progress.

Bottled water is a supply and demand commodity. People don't have to buy it and don't need it. The price is set based on willingness to pay.

Tap water always wins out over bottled water when tested for bacteria. Tap water contains chlorine, and bottled water does not.

Becuase there are a lot of lemmings out there who believe bottled water is better than any tap water.

FACT: Most bottled water IS tap water. Just from another state...

Didn't you just complain about big corporations?

Now you are complaining about the government taking control of the water supply (because the government indeed is insufficient)

So what is your choice, big bad corporations keeping the price of tap water down, or the government charging you more for less.

What a conundrum you must be experiencing?

One of the pitfalls of being a capitalistic society; nothing is free; everythiing has a price.
