I have a domain setup in 'building A'. Rather than have the extra work and expense of setting up a second server in 'Building B', located about 10 miles away, is there a way that the computers in 'Building B' can join the domain in 'Building A'? I tried setting the primary DNS on one of the remote PCs as the domain server's IP, but I still can't connect to the domain.

I would assume that each locations internet connections are seperate from each other? there is no point to point leased line going from building to building . including fiber. ?
Building A has the domain server with active directory setup
Building B has just an internet connection with some router/and switch connecting all machines and equipment?

You would need to set up a VPN or virtual private network between the two networks. and then have the network bridged. where network A in building A with an address as an example 10.0.0.X where X is any number on any machine
and building B with network B has addresses 10.0.1.X
After both netwokrs are connected and bridged. This will make it possible in building B to do a search by IP address ( and computer name if certian protocols are enabled) to find comptuers on the other network . so when in building B. i start my machine up and it searches for
domaina.yahooanswers.com to authenticate my machine . it will locate it in building A..
There is equipmetn and setup associated with this that would not be possible for me to explain on here. I would suggest finding a local GEEK and or research on the web.. Will take some time . But it is doable..

also make sure your bandwith is high enough to support the encryption level you choose, along with normal 'web' traffic at that other location. At least 128bit encryption should be used. . i would use IpSEC type vpn..
i would look into a fiber connection .. and or leased line setup.
hope this helps..

you may want a vpn (virtual private network) setup between the buildings, you can do this if your routers support vpns between themselves, or you can setup a vpn server at each end to make a connection to the other. Or an MPN (managed private network), something like fibre between the buildings if you can afford it, or even wireless with a couple of dishes if you have line of site.
You just need to make sure the right ports are open between the two sites.
This should work as I have done it even a couple of thousand kilometers apart. Just bear in mind if it is over a relatively slow link logins maybe slow, and there is no way you should do roaming profiles.

Unless you have a direct line wired between the buildings You will need to setup a VPN between the them. You can do this with the internet and a VPN router for the second building but it will have to have a wired connection of some sort to know it is supposed to connect to the "domain". A vpn just provides that type of connection.

i've got in no way performed it with a working laptop or computing gadget to community VPN. i might strongly recommend you employ a router to router VPN. or you ought to have no longer something yet problems attempting to get entry to community materials from the distant region. With the router to router VPN, the community sees you as in simple terms yet another subnet. growing to be to be a member of the area, etc. then is enormously easy.
