the small details or the big picture?

Tough question..... we sometimes concentrate on the big picture and the small details derail it... and some other times, we get bogged down with the small details losing sight and hold of the big picture.

In my view the big picture is the goal and the small details make up the path. Although both are important, the goal is fixed whereas there can be alternate paths for the same goal. My vote therefore goes to the 'big picture'.

I may seem going over the top here, but there's something "brewing" in my little grey cells that through this analogy "could" add another perspective. When I'm painting, all the small details make the picture. At this point, it could be considered a complete & acceptable picture. (Sometimes, if I have a deadline, & the client thinks it's complete, I just sign it!) Yet sometimes when I put it aside for a bit, & look at it again, it isn't the "big picture." I'll paint out lots of details, add more. This can evolve to the point the first big picture isn't recognizable at all. I can't quite articulate my point, perhaps my thought is that details & picture evolve & one isn't any more important than the other; in fact, there may never BE a big picture. Geez. I could really go on with this!

It is the small details that enhance the big picture.
The big picture is a sophisticated construct. It isn't
practical to demolish the big picture and create
a new big picture every time a refinement is
desired. The small details ease the gradual
progress of change by conserving that part of
the picture which need not change while significantly
improving the overall quality of the picture.

small gave a good answer. for me, small details are important so that the "the big picture" that i eventually form, or people see is perfect. small details leads to perfection.
as small said, the big picture is the goal and the small details form the path, the perfect path.

Small details are the most important. They are the dots that create and color each point in the big picture. Without each point the picture is not quite complete.

The big picture is definitely the most important issue. How we look at things determines the details.

The small details. If you can pay attention and pick out the small details (in life, or a particular job, situation, etc.) amidst all the extraneous noise, clutter and distractions, that will help you focus on what the big picture really is.

The small details are the jigsaw pieces of the big picture so both are equally important.
