Despite being a Red Sox fan I am not accepting answers saying that any of the Yankees are gay because I don't think the answers are being given in the spirit in which the question was asked i.e. genuine enquiy into the nature of a sport and whether it can accept diversity of orientation.

None...there aren't any in the NFL, NBA, or NHL either. There have been a few guys who came out after their careers were over, but there has never been an openly gay player in any of the 4 major sports leagues in the US.

No current players have publicly acknowledged being gay. As noted by jackdupp1 above, Glenn Burke and Billy Beane (not the A's GM - a different guy) are the only players to come out, and both did so after retiring. Since even the most conservative estimates put gays at 2-3% of the population, it's likely there are a couple dozen currently playing.

Glenn Burke and Billy Bean (who isn't the Oakland GM) are the only 2 brazenly gay ex-gamers, and neither got here out till as quickly as that they had retired. The be conscious gay would not decide for scare costs.

Derek Jeter has had more uber hot celebrity gfs than every red sox combined he's the farthest thing from gay. Although we see who A Rod is with you can still make fun of him.
