A friend, who is female, keeps mentioning "I hate myself". Why does she keep going on about this??
No matter what I say, she still believes this. Is she telling me not to like her and stay away from her? I don't understand with her pessimistic view of herself.

The thing is, when we go out for coffee or talk, she has a good laugh or is happy.

I've heard my daughter say this when she is frustrated over something in particular. Perhaps someone has commented her negatively on the way she looks or acts and she has lost all self confidence. Just continue to tell her that you enjoy her company and compliment the things about her that you truly like. These setbacks take a while to recover from.

I think it may be one of two things: She wants someone to recognize her and have her as the center of attention, or she honestly doesnt care for herself. A lot of women dont like thereselves at some point until they rediscover who they are and embrace it.

she lacks confidence. she was probably talked about a lot and it got so bad that she doesn't feel the same anymore. help her if you're a friend because this could lead to a bigger problem. better sooner than later
