When the soldiers came monthly.... and they took from us, raped, took life indiscriminately and did terrible things to my people and family.
There is no greater fear than living in a dictatorship and never knowing which day is your last or which family member will disappear, and how and and when!
Just returned to this question and noted how much commonality exists among us... fear... pain... everywhere. And then of course, there is one guy who has never been scared (see below-- Jaime) but fears he might be scared someday if he discovers he is a criminal! There are always those who will remain lead lives that are hygenic, sterile, shallow, unfazed, and untouched... how sad.

I was about 22 years old, siting on a jungle trail at night, My buddies were scattered along the same trail that wandered along the jungle. The trees were two hundred feet high and rained all night from the damp. We knew the Cong were all over the area, they were using this trail and we were suppose to see and observe, do not contact.
I could here every insect in the jungle, the animals, movement from somewhere, I knew we were surrounded but, we only had twelve men.
I was so scared I cried, I prayed to God, I had thoughts of my young wife at home with two children. I chose to be here, in Gods hell.

Just hours ago, a rocket hit our villa here in Baghdad, International Zone, and completely destroyed our dining area. It was almos lunchtime. In that exact place where the bomb hit, is where we take our lunch. I'm still shaking in shock. I could have killed today. What could be more scarier? God is so good.
