Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

so you ever heard of Ellis Island??? We became more civilized and allowed our country to be undermined instead of draconian tactics that weed out the chaff. WE NEED A HAPPY MEDIUM.

Do you think beyond the immediate or do you think answers are found on bumper stickers? Just because this WAS an immigrant nation, doesn't mean there is unlimited water, land and resources. China and India are both poor but their populations don't have a god given right to move here. Same goes with Latin America and Africa. If you want to make room for ANOTHER poverty stricken 3rd worlder, then leave.

The value base has deteriorated, respect, privacy have left and materialism has taken over. To work for something has become lost and the family unit has brought into the world young offspring who, for the most part, are absent of anything except immediate gratification. They do not know what it is like to not have food, shelter, and freedom. Remember the past, for we have not learned from it and we will repeat it.....

I guess we've enough tired, poor weary huddled masses....LOL
No but seriously, people are alot less tolerant and not willing to help their brother, they are worried about their hides, and that of their loved ones before others, it was not always this way, but America has changed because her people have changed from helping and giving to rude and intolerant, you see it everywhere, unless people change, situations never will.
Thank you for your question.

That does not mean everyone and anyone. Further, it is a quotation, not part of the US Constitution. Nothing has "happened" to the US. We have had immigration laws for hundreds of years.

Its a fascist police state, In the bible it says - "My people shall be destroyed through a lack of knowledge" and that is exactly what is happening, these Americans don't no squat when it comes to anything, 9/11 was clearly an inside job, they should have stopped their government from going into a war in irag and pakistan and they should have impeached their president for a phony election and they should have sent there government to the hague to answer for the murder of three thousand of it own civilians on september 11th 2001

This little bit of doggerel (well, it is) was seen by immigrants coming by sea JUST BEFORE they arrived at Ellis Island, where many of them were refused, incidentally.

Even back in the days of those words, people who wanted to live in the U.S. had to be processed through immigration services.
