My teacher marked it wrong and I thought It was right

The common denominator is 9: multiply 1/3 top and bottom by 3 to get the common denominator 9:

8/9 - 1/3 =
8/9 - 1·3/3·3 =
8/9 - 3/9 =
(8 - 3) / 9 =
5/9

2/3 + 2/5 = 16/15

The common denominator is 3·5=15: multiply 2/3 top and bottom by 5 and 2/5 to and bottom by 3 to get the common denominator 15:

2/3 + 2/5 =
2·5/3·5 + 2·3/5·3 =
10/15 + 6/15 =
(10 + 6) / 15 =
16/15
(which can also be written as 1 1/15 )
