Who the hell called a 4 cyl. Subie a gas guzzler? Go sit on a mountain top strumming a guitar and eat bird seed! I had a Subaru legacy wagon that was pretty nimble off road for a grocery getter. I believe H2's and H3's are just status symbols. Ever see one muddy? Didn't think so.

True, True, I saw a TV show with the two in off road competition. The Subaru won in every category. And also out performed many other off road vehicles. The show I saw was filmed in Australia.

Actually just about anything with 4-wheel drive and a decent bit of ground clearance is likely to exceed the performance of that piece of bloatware.
