is it possible to install a separate antivirus program just for the external hard drive? im planning on buying an ext.hd but im worried that viruses might attack it.

how can i protect my ext.hd against viruses? is the MAIN antivirus enough on protecting it or do i have to install a separate one?

thanks for taking time to answer...

Main AV program will protect EXT drive too, but if you use it "away from home" to download stuff from other peoples PCs etc, first thing you do when you come home is ask teh AV to scan that drive.

Ext HDDs are great for "on the road" I take a 500G with me when i go visit my Dad to "update" all his software, easier than a stack of CDs

P.S: More than 1 AV will cause problems anyway

one anti virus software is enough and you can install on a second hard drive but will work only when the hard drive is connected on the computer that have the operating system on what the installation of the antivirus was made, my sugest is that one antivirus is enough and pud on the internal drive and a firewall, and should not be any problems

If you already have anti-virus software, it will protect ALL hard drives on your system, external or otherwise. But if you're using Norton, then you should whack yourself in the head with a 2x4. Switch to AVG Anti-Virus. Its free and works approximately 1 bazillion times better.
