Stop wondering why the McCanns left their children and instead thought how much the world is going downhill? Where have all these peadophiles come from, when my parents were young they left all their doors open and everyone played in the street and there was no fear of anything like this.
What is happening to the human race?

Well said... The world is going from bad to worse, it makes me question whether I ever want to have children, expose them to a world of such hatred. All we can do is not be swayed, keep our values and keep our heads high, then the hatred won't win.

The world hasn't suddenly gone down hill. Anyone who is interested in history clearly knows that life for some people especially children has always been tough.
Children years ago from poor family's worked as servants from the age of 12 or some were sent down the pits that's just naming two types of work. All children worked long hours and many died because of the poor working conditions. we only have to go back Victorian times to see how badly some children were treated

Yes, in the 70's I was a latch street child and so were most of my friends. However paedophiles were around but not so much in the public domain/media. Our parents felt we were safe. With more knowledge today of paedophilia etc we know now our children aren't safe to be left on their own that's without taken in to account all the other dangers leaving small children on their own could present

About 15 years ago, my family and two other families with children under three used to go on caravaning holidays. On the evenings all the adults would come into our caravan, because me and my brother were older and would sleep through anything unlike the younger kids in the other families, and have a few beers. Obviously baby monitors were used and the caravans were literally feet apart and regular checks were made on the kids. But it never occurred to anyone that anything really sinister could happen then. Nowadays everyone is terrified of what could happen to their children and I find it heartbreaking that in such a short space of time like 15 yrs the world could have changed so horribly

Yes the world is in a frightening state compared to the fifties, which makes it all the more difficult to understand that they left their children alone.

But truthfully, if EVIL wants into your life it will get in somehow.
That is the reason we have to be on guard even more for those we love and who are too young to defend themselves.

I am 66 and never even heard Foul and filthy words until I was an adult. Now toddlers say them after learning them from their parents. Very young teens are having sex and getting diseases. Perversion is considered the norm now.
The Internet allows for wonderful things world wide and foul and disgusting things like pedophilia world wide. The sheer fact that the world is more populated and the methods of foul and evil behaviors are rampant throughout it makes the world a more nervous place to live.

Search for the pedophiles that live within a mile or two of your home, it will scare you no end. They are truly everywhere.

There are no more paedophiles around today than there were when when our parents were young. The difference is that the media have made us all so much more aware of their existence.

These things were rarely spoken about by our Grandparents' generation - they preferred to bury their heads in the sand, but children still went missing and were just as often abused by family and adult friends of the family. I'm no spring chicken, but even as a young child my mother (who was particularly enlightened for her time) sanctioned me not only to never go off with strangers, but also not to go off on my own with any other adult male even if I knew him well. She was a nurse and therefore was fully aware of the extent of sexual abuse that went on even though it rarely made the news.

I remember when I was a kid being able to have a real childhood where i played down the fields for the entire day and parents didn't worry about anything. Now it is barely safe for a kid to walk down the streets! That's why so many are stuck indoors in front of computers and game consoles.

We all know times have changed for the worse. Saying that, even in the early 70's my parents wouldn't have left me alone for any amount of time, it's common sense rather than changing times. We still had house fires back then and children could still have accidents if left alone so the principle hasn;t changed.

As for the mcCanns, I have voiced my opinion about them so much, I can;t be bothered anymore, they were wrong, end of.

Aside from the McCanns issue, yes I am frightened by the amount of paedophiles we have. Its a scary thing that we cant relax when our children are playing out.
I really detest them and they make me feel sick. I wish there was a way we could get rid of them from society.
All we can do is make sure our kids dont come into contact with one.

I agree with you 100%. My mother said that to me one day when she was talking about her younger days. Yes the world has changed for the worst. I think there is not enough punishment out there today. I mean people are getting away with a lot more then they use to. My mother said she wouldn't have done half the things they are doing now, you just wouldn't have got away with it. So it is sad to say the human race has changed for the worst. And I don't see it getting any better either.

there's always been paedophiles, it's just that now we have 24/7 news coverage, people travel further, there's the internet. In general we have more sources of information available to us than twenty or thirty years ago, so things that never used to reach the media now often do.
There are more organisations that help and support the victims, so it's no longer a case of them having to shut up and suffer in silence. We're just all much more clued up about things that never used to be talked about.
it's not a new phenomena, it's just not swept under the carpet, and children who are abused are not immediately considered to be lying

I don't think paedophiles "came from" anywhere, I think they always have been around. But if you look back through history people were more inclined to hush things like that up, family shame and all that. Probably it is true that there are more people using things like the internet and paedophile rings 1) because they are sadly more available in this time of more technology, and 2) because now that people won't keep quiet through shame if their stepdad or a family friend is hurting them like they might have in the past, paedophiles seek children they don't know because there is a lower chance of being caught. It's not a phenomenon that's grown, it's an awareness of it, and a determination not to be a victim that has increased.
