And also basically free snack food in bulk that you just need to sprinkle flavouring on.

I know they do not sell it as food safe - but I know more than one person who regularly eats the stuff after sprinkling goodness knows what on as a flavouring.

They look almost identical to one of those "unsurprisingly) corn-starch based snack foods.

To answer you though: Cheaper, enviromentally friendly, less flammable

The polystyrene is not biodegradable the starch is ~~
