Go to Google then click on
'Advertising Programs', you will find details of both 'Adwords' and 'Adsense' there.
The difference between the two is that you pay Google for Adwords, they place these in their sponsored links or on other websites.
Adsense on the other hand are ads that you display on your own website and when someone clicks on them, you receive a percentage of the revenue.
Unless you have a really high traffic website, you will not get much money from Adsense.

It is some what difficult. I use it, but not really happy at all with Google or Yahoo's. It's all pretty much in the keywords/tag words. They do have tutorials to help you. But make sure that you set a monthly budget, because if you do not, one month your bill might be $80.00 then the next $8000.00!! They also provide a service that they will design and market your add for you, with of course a certain fee.
I would suggest is to sign up and set a small monthly budget until you get the hang of it.

yes , i have done adwords , but unless you have something to sell or somwhere to direct google ads it is pointless , and the only people who will make money will be google .
there are no get rich schemes which work , the best way to make serious money is to have something to offer which people will buy , without feeling they have been ripped off

Anybody can do it, but you most likely wont make "serious money" unless you already operate a VERY popular website... like, say... MySpace.
