authors who right the same as Sidney Sheldon are -
Elizabeth Adler, Lorenzo Carcaterra, Richard Condon, Wilbur Smith all right the same genre of books as Sheldon, but there are a few great other writers I personally would suggest. Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Jonathan Kellerman, Lynda La Plante.
Also if you just want a good crime novel with some humour in it try Christopher Brookmyre or Mark Billingham, both are GREAT storytellers

So you had a fight! What else is new! Did you really assume that you could live with another human being and not disagree and get into a fight? What happened to you is quite normal. But you got to realize that now that you had a fight, the next step is to compromise. "I'll do this, if you will do that!" That's how things work. You both can not get your way and hope to have a successful marriage. Yes, marriage takes a lot of work. For more instructions on marriage check out my source.

Tess Gerritsens books always have a female as the lead character, I love reading her books, and I'm a bloke!
As one of the earlier answers said, try Patricia Cornwell as well.

Hi!
One of my favourite lead female characters in literature is Sister Fidelma, a dalaigh of the courts of the Irish kings who solves mysteries in Celtic Britain. The stories that feature her are well worth seeking out.
Good wishes.

Wuthering Heights
Although the Australian Author of Thorn Birds is a pretty good writer - Colleen McCullough (although the priest featured very highly in this novel too - the TV viewing was great.
