I try. I must admit my biggest downfall is a bigoted attitude towards christians... well most religions. But I am working on it.

I think accepting differences is just accepting reality. There are so many cultures and groups it is impossible for there not to be differences. The questions I always have in dealing with people is how open they are themselves. If they are willing to make allowances for diversity I can get along just fine but if they expect me to follow their idiosyncratic rules that's just not going to work. We have accepted norms of law and etiquette in every nation. Those are the standard to go by. My behavior is going to one thing in the States but if I am in another country then the local customs are going to be observed as best as I can without compromising my own convictions.

I feel that I accept people for who they are. I, however have ZERO tolerance for people who are against gay people. I don't care who they are what religion they are I cannot stand it. I do not dislike any particular religious group, only the people within those groups who insist on using the bible to promote their own bigotry. Some may say i'm also being bigoted. But I hardly call disliking hatred bigotry. Ok I'm done.

People are different. That's fact. Despite what conservatives seem to think, we don't all operate the same and nothing can be done to change that. You can accept differences among people or struggle to repress them, much the same way that you can accept that the sky is blue or struggle to deny it. One is done by intelligent, enlightened humans, the other done by fearful, hive-minded imbeciles.

I think you should pick Mel W.'s answer as the Best one, because I don't think I can top that. 'Live and let live' is the ideal rule, I think, but unfortunately most people don't and won't seem to follow it these days. But then again - if we have a President who doesn't believe in it, why should anybody else, right?
But as for me - what Mel said. I try to respect differences as long as the person/people in question aren't going out of their way to harm others.

Because we're all different in some way....I accept all.
I also accept because it's the right and "moral" thing to do.
Maybe also because Jesus of Nazareth said "judge not lest ye be judged"...or something like that.
Just as long as the difference doesn't involve "YOU" killing or hurting "Me", and my family.
I can't accept calling "hate" a difference...then accepting it.
Oh....it's all getting so confusing....I think I'll just go to bed now!
Peace be with you...-Vinny.

I accept most people. I can't stand people who hate gay people or black people most of all. I can't accept people who hate other people for their differences. Differences make us who we are, otherwise we would all be stockbrokers named Bob.
As for Mel W's answer, I was floored. I just watched an episode of south park that featured NAMBLA in it and I thought it was just a joke. I saw their answer and I was like "holy sh**, that exists?!" That I cannot accept either.
I don't like those who can't accept my differences either. I'm agnostic, and when this comes up in conversation I get the people who tell me I'm wrong and going to h'ell. I like those people who accept it as my own opinion, even if they don't share the same opinion!

As long as people are not hurting other people, then I am very open to their differences.
If it's a Mormon-extremist raping a young girl's he's married, hiding behind religion, I'm not tolerant. If it's a NAMBLA member, not tolerant due to pedophilia. If it's the Catholic Church protecting their rapist/priests, instead of protecting innocent children, I am not accepting.
I think you get the idea.
I'm a Christian, and I believe God made each of us special and unique. I also believe he created us to love and be loved.

I find I can accept most differences among people. I have trouble with bigots, and people that like to torture/harm others.
