Taxpayers for Common Sense, a watchdog group, has calculated that Clinton landed 360 earmarks worth $2.2 billion from 2002 to 2006 in various spending bills. The beneficiaries have ranged from defense giant Northrop Grumman Corp. to New York-based Telephonics, which won $5 million for helicopter equipment.

This country can't afford her, but it has nothing to do with money. Her foreign policy would be a frightening disaster.

If Hillary is supporting defense contracts for companies located in her own state, she's just representing the people of New York who need jobs and she's supporting a strong national defense! It's not surprising that New York would get the 2nd highest amount of defense projects, it's a major manufacturing state with a skilled workforce.

The article you quote "McCain Says He Will Try to Squash Clinton's 'Pork' Projects in Defense Spending Bill" is mostly a report of McCain's remarks made in conjunction with a fundraiser, therefore, any claims in it cannot be taken at face value. In response, "the Clinton camp said McCain previously praised the bill that he was criticizing, saying in May that it proves strong national defense and saving taxpayers' money were bipartisan priorities."

As for the numbers the AP reporter Michael R. Blood quotes from Taxpayers for Common Sense, they're not to be found in the TCS website. This article is sloppy in many ways. In other words, it's a very poor source for information about Hillary, McCain, defense spending or pork.

hey why_are_you_so_upset - 435 billion? lol, your congress would have to vote that money for the war! I guess the troops you support don't need bullets, food, gas, boots, guns, tanks, humvees, water, more water, tents. Go ahead b***h all you want. Keep talking, the troops are listening to you, did you know that they can still vote from over there!
This could be the title of the Democrats theme song:

But the fact remains, Reagan ran up the national debt higher than it ever was and Dubya topped that. So deceitful to buy votes with all this unfunded tax favoritism. If Dubya was a little more forthright he could raise taxes and claim he has to fund pork legislation.

I, too, am getting sick and tired of the excessive spending, going on, in our country. She only asked for $ 2.2 billion? Shoot, that's a drop in the bucket, compared to what is being spent foolishly, for what?
However, if you look more closely, I think you will find that at least her spending bills are going in the right direction, to help OUR country!
It is not enough to continue spending billions, and billions of dollars on an ill conceived war, but, to give major non-bid contracts to Bush's 'buddies,' Halliburton and other contractors have been making billions of dollars, instead of hiring and paying our army corps of engineers to do the work of rebuilding Iraq. WE the People of this great country continue to foot the bills for somewhere 'over there,' instead of focusing on somewhere 'over here!'
We need to begin putting OUR people to work, rather than taking jobs away from American shores, and sending them to other countries! Maybe, just a thought; those companies which ship our jobs over 'there' should also MOVE over 'there' - they seem to favor giving American jobs away, because they can get cheap [slave labor] 'over there!' And, maybe they should be saddled with major lawsuits, or brought to justice for something like... 'acts of treason!' Plain and simple, those major corporations are depleting our economy by seeking out cheaper labor, and not being willing to pay Americans a decent salary. This is a major deal, and needs to be stopped, in order for our country to get back to our status in the world, and our status honored for so long, by the American People! Note: American products are the best!!!

She probably needed to funnel money into companies she was invested in before she had to sell off the stock.

every senator and congressional rep. pushes and probes to get earmarks for their district. If i were in washington, i'd do the same b/c it increases your popularity within your district or state. Hillary is using a wise strategy. I don't blame her. I blame congress for letting this pork slip through.
