The community donates money to help the families out and many times the mortgage is taken care of by the company that built the home.

I was wondering that myself. Don't see too many "how they're doing a year later" shows do you?
I believe that the homes are paid off by donations from the communities, and the homes are more energy efficient, so utilities are lower. I'm sure, however, that the municipalities quadruple their taxes, so they must be out in the streets begging for spare change at intersections.

I worked on one, the Armada, Michigan-black mold episode,( I worked on the plumbing). I found out that the mortgage was taking care of by the bank, the only thing she had to take care of were the utilities. She was on a well system, so she didn't have to pay for water. All she had was electricity and gas. The taxes were paid for the first year. No, she would not have been able to afford the house if she had to do it all by herself.

I was wondering this too. Maybe one of the recipients will answer in! I think they use more energy efficient appliances, so that helps, but I was also wondering what happens to their property taxes?!
On a side note: How do girls deal with being on their period and continue taking birth control pills on Survivor?
