the side with hinges may need to be sanded or hinges might need adjusting.

Sounds like it needs to be adjusted...first, you need to know why it is hard to close. Where is the bind located? Quite often the trim next to the hinges will actually cause the door to bind... simple fix... pull the trim away from the door just a bit, and resecure it.

If the door is hard to close because it is rubbing at top edge, then it needs to be re-squared in the opening.

If the door is rubbing against the jamb (knob side), then it needs to be adjusted there...

if youre getting the idea that the answer is too vague... lol... its because your question is too vague... there are too many things that will cause a door to bind, or be hard to open or close... provide some more details and we can give you better answers :)

Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to slightly move the strike plate, the metal plate on door jamb where door handle latches.
