Sorry if this has been asked before-I tried to find an answer to my problem..........The outside unit is running. The inside unit is running. There is no or very, very little air coming out of any of the vents in the house. Does anyone know what might be the problem? I don't know if this matters but we change the filters once a month or every other month at the most. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Thank you everyone for your answers so far. I have another question. There is some mildew on two of the vents in the back of the house. When I turned the a/c off I heard a noise like maybe a drip on metal? And the other vent there is a slow drip of water-very small puddle of water on the floor. Is this a whole other issue or is there a connection with my problem? (sometimes I miss apartments!!)

If you have low air volume out of your registers, you may have a defective blower motor, a defective blower, a blockage somewhere in the ducting, loose ducting, or the fan is stuck on low speed.

Re-check your filter, make sure the return duct is clear, e.g., no furniture recently moved to block it, a throw rug over the return, or a stuffed animal crammed into the duct. Check all of the registers and verify that they are in the full open position. On very rare instances, the insulation in a duct will come loose, flap down and block a duct, but this is very rare. On some homes, ductwork is made of flexible tubing, and this tubing can come loose, or tear allowing air to escape. If your attic or crawl space is cooler, you may be losing air from your ductwork.

If you feel comfortable and can safely open the front of the air-handler (inside unit) when the unit is operating, examine the fan and motor and see if it is spinning in the correct direction, or if it is running quickly. If it is, with the door off, check your supply registers to see if more air is coming out now. If it is, there is a blockage in the return ducting. If there is not more air coming out and the fan is spinning fast, you may have a blockage in the supply duct(s).

Open the cabinet where the evaporator coil is located and examine the evaporator coil. Is it dirty or clean? does it seem like air is flowing through the coil or trying to go around instead?

If you don't feel comfortable doing this, call in a reputable service company.

Keep on Koolin'

It's very important to change the filter regularly. There's a possibility that you have some supply air ducts disconnected, but most likely either your a/c system is low on freon and the evaporator coil begins to ice-up restricting air flow or the evap coil already has a blanket of dirt across it restricting air flow, either way you'll probably need a certified service technician (like myself) to properly diagnose it.

possible reasons are 1 fan motor is not blowing enough air for the system you have..all systems are designed so that they need a certain amouint of air measured in cfm or cubic feet a minute...this is decided by the size of the system... ..2 a-coil or evaporator is dirty and needs to be cleaned...a-coil and evaporator coil is same thing....3..blower wheel is dirty and needs to be cleaned 4 if it is a belt driven unit belt could be loose allowing it to slip while running. 5 duct work is leaking air somewhere and its not making it to your vents...

Get a clean blower motor and matching capacitor, probability is sturdy that the bearings are undesirable and it is not worth destroying your outdoors unit to keep a greenback with the aid of fact this is going to value you a hell of so lots greater in the tip. Capacitors tend to easily bypass undesirable and don't artwork in any respect, you may disconnect the CAP and have it examined at a radio shack or a HVAC supply domicile or an HVAC tech don't be inexpensive spend slightly now and keep in the long-term
