and never saves anything. living life from paycheck to paycheck, week after week. with absolutely nothing to show for it....

i would say alcoholic would be a somewhat appropriate term (because a great deal of the money is spent on booze), however i suppose that i'm looking for an atrocious word...even better, a word that i've never even heard of. enlighten me...please. (and thank you.)

Perhaps you call them friend, parent, lover, teacher, co-worker. Alcoholics are all over, and calling them names won't achieve your goals. They have a serious disease that needs treatment, not derision.
Call or go on line to a program called "Intervention." It's an excellent process families can use to encourage their alcohol and drug addicted loved ones to seek help for their disease. Love them into sobriety, with help. It's very unlikely to work with just asking or threatening.
