The piano is both a chordophone (an instrument where strings produce their sound by means of a resonating chamber) and a PERCUSSION instrument. The strings of a piano are hit with hammers. Hitting is the criterion for percussion (irrespective whether it is a string, a piece of wood, a sheet of brass or a slice of other tuned metal which is struck). A xylophone isn't a woodwind instrument because it has wooden bars, nor is a gong a brass instrument because it is made of brass. Neither is a piano a string instrument just because what is 'percussed' happens to be a set of tuned strings.

As with all instruments. Vibrations in the air make sound. For instance, if you hit a drum in space it wouldn't make any noise at all, there's no air for the vibrations to travel through. On percussion instruments that play distinct notes, like a Xylophone, they have pipes of differing sizes hanging below the keys. These pipe bounce the vibrations back and forth to make that note when the key is struck. Hope that's what you were looking for.

there are many different percussion instruments: Vibraphone, Bells, Xylophone, and Marimba. To play these, you need hard mallets for the bells and soft yarn mallets for the rest. The rest of the percussion instruments are: Toms; there are high toms, low toms, and medium toms. There are Snare drums. Last but not least, is the bass drum. You need drum sticks to play those drums.

Percussion is obviously the result of two objects striking each other, but I think the rhythm simulates something in nature, such as a heart beat, pounding surf, falling raindrops, or the hoof beats of a horse. If we identify with this rhythm, we`re comforted and we like the music.

they set the background beat and timing for the other instruments...they intermingle intricate beats and sounds...I tuned my drums to D and it would harmonize to a degree with my guitar and bass player.....guess I could say more....but, good luck;;;;;;;
