I have a hole in my muffler, it's actually on the pipe right behind the muffler running from the exhaust pipe, it's not that big. Anyway, can a hole or a bad/old muffler cause your car to get bad gas mileage?

If the hole is in the pipe behind the muffler I doubt that it will increase noise much or contribute to bad mileage.

does not sound like the subject is the muffler inspite of the accident. My wager is that your subject is on the exhaust manifold the place a sensor may be effected if there's a hollow. if this is your muffler it won't harm milage. Mufflers honestly decrease milage via increasing the exhaust rigidity. A hollow interior the muffler disapates a number of that rigidity and you honestly might have fun with a tiny benifit on your milage. My advice is to get your exhaust subject fixed. that can help be attentive to if there is extra to the story.
