Which would you resort to so that you could feed your children.
Assume all are under non-violent circumstances, i.e., you would not commit the crime if it involved direct physical violence.
1 - theft of food
2 - theft of cash/valuables to sell to pay for food
3 - selling marijuana
4 - selling hard drugs (heroin, meth, anything beyond marijuana)
5 - prostitution (female OR male)
6 - crossing an international border so that you could do "legal" work (i.e. cleaning, gardening, farm work, etc.), although without the legal right to do so.
7 - crossing an international border to do illegal work (selling drugs, prostitution, etc.)
Feel free to qualify any conditions.
Remember, your children are starving!

i would choose
1-theft of food
5-prostitution (female or male)
6-crossing an international border so that you could do "legal" work (i.e. cleaning, gardening, farm work, etc.), although without the legal right to do so.
i wouldn't choose the following for this reasons
2-theft of cash/valuables to seel to pay for food
because selling things might get me caught really badly
like going to jail and eventually my kids will still be starving
and me not anywhere near them
never the less that i might get caught with any of most of those crimes
3-selling marijuana
and
4-selling hard drugs (heroin, meth, anything beyond marijuana)
both 3 and 4 for the same reason
i wouldnt feed my kids from drugs
it might turn out eventually that my kids starts taking it
and in a way u r hurting people on the long run
even if its by their choice (i mean to take the drugs)
but u r participating
7- crossing an international border to do illegal work (selling drugs, prostitution, etc.)
also the same reason for number 3 and 4
but wasting time thinking about the crimes and doing them
i think i would better seek for a job where i live
if i am ready to go down to do crimes
and work in cleaning, gadening and farming
i think i will find the same sort of work near by
however if you are facing this problem really
wish things will work out good for u
:)

Prior to resorting the crime, there are many other ways such as degrading yourself by going to a food bank, going to the welfare office and begging for food stamps, begging for food by holding one of those "will work for food signs", standing on a street corner begging for cash money and becoming a contestant and doing whatever it takes/whatever you have to eat to win the $50,000 on "Fear Factor".
A person could resort legally to prostitution if they relocated to Amsterdam or the one county in Nevada, USA where it is legal.

I love the point you have made with your question.
For as much as we know of Gods' will, what has happened to others could have happened to me.
If I had to steal to feed my child, I would, and if I was brave enough to cross an international border so I could do legal work I would do that too. And there would be no other time when I would more appreciate the charity of strangers.

8. None of the above. I'd find soup kitchens, shelters, and welfare assistance before I'd resort to any of that - not to mention I'd get a freaking job, even if it were cleaning spitballs off a drive-thru window with a squeegee. If my children are hungry, no work is beneath me.
I would want my children to learn that being a good, honest person is more important than all the riches in the world.
Edit:
Wow. Almost all of you would teach your children that if they can't afford it, commit a crime to get it. It's no wonder we have such a high crime rate in this country. Unbelievable.
Are there not any good people left? I pity our future.

None.
The country has a lot of social nets for situations such as this. Probably your best bet is to look into one of the career re-training programs offered and maybe lean on the welfare system while you're working it out.

Ask Jean Valjean. Or Piaget.
1. ok
2. ok
3. not ok - marijuana physically/mentally harms the user
4. not ok - hard drugs physically/mentally harms the user
5. ok, so long as the prostitute is not transmitting STD's and thereby harming the user
6. ok
7. ok, so long as the illegal work is not harming the user
And from the theme song for Beretta:
"Don’t do the crime, if you can’t do the time - Yeah, don’t do it."

I would have to say 3 & 4. I mean alcohol is ethical to sell and it kills more people than drugs. Drugs are used at their own peril by other people, you're just keeping them happy. Making people happy is the right thing to do in any situation.

I would accept # 1 or # 2 as a means of survival and being realistic. However, I'm sure there would be other options where crime wouldn't be necessary

None. (If you check the 10 Commandments I'm sure you won't find an asterisk annotating loopholes on the bottom of the stone tablets.)
