its not necessarily more painful, you just don't have the gradual build up you get with natural labor. Its more of a "shotgun" effect if you will. Natural labor starts out small and works up to full labor, induction you start at full labor, so you don't build up a tolerance to the pain. If its too much, get an epidural, that's what its there for!!!

My water broke and I had nothing happen for about 8 hours. They decided to induce my labor with pitocin. After that the contraction came on like a train crash. They were fast, hard and with hardly any break in between them. I had an epidural soon after that because I could handle the pain. With pitocin you aren't eased in to labor you are thrown in at full speed. I am pregnant with my second child and I am going to do everything to stay away from pitocin at all cost if I can. I have never had any other drugs to be induce though. You have to also know that every ones experience is different and pain level is different. I wish you all the luck and hope that you have a beautiful birth experience that you will love to remember.

i never felt any "contractions" with my son and my epidural didnt work either. I had really bad back labor and hurt really bad in my back the whole time. I was induced with my second and I did have contractions. It was painful but I thought it was alot easier than my first one. I didn't get an epidural until I was like a 5-6. I liked being induced because I didn't have to worry about being sent home from the hospital cause I wasnt in labor! LOL! I wish you the best. Every minute of the whole process is worth it! You wont feel a thing after you see that beautiful baby!

I would say NO! unless you are an all natural girl
See if they know they are going to induce, then if you want an epidural then they will put that in first, and then give you meds to induce. Now if you want to go natural, pitocin hurts!! It intensifies your contractions quickly making smaller contractions huge, (thusly inducing labor) and it even stings going from the iv into your arm. I suggest making up a birth plan with your husband and make sure he knows what you want you could even share it with your doctor before had if you are able to.

My first son was all natural and I was induced with my second baby... labor is labor either way but i preferred to go into labor naturally. you have to stay in the bed more when you are induced and i was wanting to walk. induction is just more aggravating to me than going naturally, it seemed to take longer. do not worry though, no matter what you should be fine and that baby will be here soon :)

Labor is labor. (I went totally natural 3 times) Once your water breaks, the pains gradually get worse. I've had front and back labor. I'll take the back labor any day.
Good luck to you and your new baby!!!

Well, inducing makes it much more difficult. You don't go through the slow process of your vagina stretching which makes it easier for the baby to come out. It will probably cause you to tear and get stitches on your "area".. Plus it increases the chances of having to have a c section. I had my labor induced and had to have c section.

Wow...you must be getting anxious! Both of my babies were induced a bit early, as I had complications that made it dangerous for them if they went full term. While the contractions were painful, I would guess they were no worse than if it had been natural.
Good luck!

Dont wanna scare you but being induced was HELLACIOUS.
Oh and the first persons comment was wrong. Being induced is usually a very slow process. There is definitley a build up and its not a nice one. You dont just start out in full blown labor

My mom said it was double... (she had 4 kids) And my sister said it was a lot worse too... That's why as soon as they decided to induce me, I got the epidural... The pain was so bad already, I couldn't imagine it getting any worse.... You will be ok though, it is all worth it! Good Luck!
