Yesterday I tried to plug in my pool filter into the electrical outlet that is linked to the house on a stand next to the pool. For some reason, the outlet isn't working any longer. I tried the test and reset buttons, and nothing. I bought a medium grade 100 foot extension cord to use temporarily, so I can just run it into another outlet in the garage. I am wondering if I should call an electrician and what kind of job this would become... cost? Do you think they would have to redo all of the wiring? That seems like a big job to me. I plan to sell my house in about 8 months. Do you think that people would be not inclined to buy the house because the outlet next to the pool does not work? The outlet has underground wiring that runs about 75 feet.

Should not be too expensive. Usually, the wire in the ground is not the problem.

Tripped a breaker in the main box? If so, will it reset? It it keeps tripping, call an electrician or someone handy. That would be the most likely. If this is not the breaker is tripped, I would guess the problem is at the outlet.

Have someone that can work on electrical stuff without killing themselves take a look at it. Poorly installed outside outlets leak. Water gets inside and causes corrosion, shorting, broke wires.

Be safe. Electricity hurts. Always GFI pool outlets.

Look at the breaker/fuse box in the home. The GFCI plug may have tripped, but also the breaker/fuse may have opened as well. Reset/replace the fuse. If the breaker/fuse trips immediately, do not reset, you have a short to ground fault. Call a qualified electrician.

One trouble outlet will not deter most home buyers, unless they are very particular. Would you not buy your home if the outlet was non-functional? Some people are very odd. They may not buy the house because you had a welcome mat out front. Some may buy the home because it just looks like a house they want, even though there is a pool in the back yard. The prospective homeowner will have the home inspected, and when the dead outlet is found, they will use it as a negotiation tool, but it can be remidied for under $200.

You probably have a gfci circuit problem it is not wise to use a extension cord as there is a definite electrocution chance it should not be expensive for an electrical contractor to troubleshoot your problem it could be as simple as the outlet being replaced part is around 10.00

Jared is right. The GFCI (or GFI) is the same plug that individuals frequently have of their bogs and kitchens. they'll trip while grounded. You do choose the outdoor outlet field too. the only undertaking I see is to confirm to're careful approximately what youre employing around the pool. despite in case you're taking the mandatory precautions there is the threat of electrocution.
