I have an oppurtunity to work at my dream job for a little money (definitely not enough to live on), or keep my current position working for a company that I hate for more money than I have ever made before in my life. What should I do?

Take the dream job and find a way to make it possible. Take on roommates, sell the car and take the bus, take a second part-time job. Most people are not lucky enough to know what their dream job is, much less get an offer to take it.

My neighbor asked me this very question 2 years ago, and I advised her to take the dream job. She has climbed the ladder making what she wants now and it only took her a year to get it. I worked at a job that I hated because I made good money and have 3 kids. I hated going to work and the week was never ending. If you have a chance to work at a place you love you will be a lot happier. Life is to short to wake up every morning and dragging your self out of bed to go some place you hate. Get a part time job to make ends meet, if there's a will then there's a way... Good luck!!!

Take the job you will love. My husband did this same thing two years ago and somehow the money thing just worked out. The best part is having my husband come home happy from work. It really changed the entire feeling of the home. He is not on edge on sundays because he knows he has to go back to work and he is just a much happier person. I would make the same decision again in a heartbeat. Money could not have bought our family's happiness.

As long as you can afford the bare neccesities, take the dream job. I used to be a career counselor for years, and I have seen both sides of this. Bottom line, chase the opportunity - not the dollar. It's when you cease the day and find your passion, the money will follow. It always happens this way. The dream job will turn into the dream income. It's amazing what the universe will give you once you finally believe that you deserve it. Good luck!

Love is abstract while earning money relies on rationale and logic. So it makes no logical sense to work for less because of something abstract ---- just like many people think marrying for love is everything but it always turns sour down the pipe.

What your are missing is the logical component of a dream job. Are you good at it? Many people want to be super models or singers, or the next Bill Gates. But if you have no skills or competence, you won't last in that job and definitely won't make it to the top. Having the skills and then the opportunity for the dream job greatly up your odds. And many people think they have skills but they really don't.

Do your dream job! Find ways to supplement your income and live your dream! Life is too short and money comes and goes. You might never get a chance like this again!

I have always heard that if you do what you love you will never work a day in your life.

I think taking your dream job is the best way to go, if you are only chasing after money you will never be able to be truly happy. If you do what you love you will be happy.

It all depends on your personal situation. Do you have a family? If not, and you're young enough to absorb the trying times associated with penury, then go for the dream job.

If you have other responsibilities then you have to make a completely personal decision, "What is most important to me?". Remember that short-term sacrifice can lead to long term gain.

I wish I was in that decision position.

Good luck.

This is an unbelievably difficult situation. I sympathize with you as I am in the same boat. They say "do what you love, the money will follow"

Although I believe that, I have a family to support, and can't think only of myself. Once my kids are on their own, I think that I would make the leap.
