The worst that can happen is they'll give you a warning, cops generally don't like defending guys like that in the first place and only do it cause protocol says they have to.

GREETINGS, I applaud you! NOPE you can't get into trouble at all, it's becoming more and more popular for police to actually put the molesters pictures, addresses and other details in the newspapers. If you look at the site, http://www.lockportjournal.com/opinion/local_story_008222607.html somewhere and I don't have time to hunt for it, on the Lockport Journal's paper was a published list of molesters, pictures, addresses, ect. It was published by the police dept. It was shocking to see how many were near schools and living in Lockport!

I would go to a town board and school board meeting too and raise the concern. Schools are supposed to be notified of any offender in the area and I bet you they weren't.

No you cannot get into trouble. The molester had to register with the local police already and the local police are supposed to do that for you. Everyone within two blocks each way are supposed to get a flyer with the person's address and name, at least that's the case in every state I have lived in.

To all of you being negative, it is ok for this to be done, if a bank robber moved in to my area, I'd let the bak know them, if a child molester moves in, parents should know!

There are some states where they wont allow you to live within so many miles of a school if your a convicted sex offender try looking to see if it is. If you put the mans name or picture it is illegal with out his permission. You cant publish anything without permission. BUT every state has a site where you an look up local sex offenders. Try posting papers that say something like " go to this website ____ and look up the local sex offenders in our area. There are some and you will be surprised ever parent needs to see this." Just find the local web site it is easy just search it like I live in Utah so I would search Utah sex offender registery.

I say go for it. If the charges are true it is not slander or defamation of character. He already defamed himself.

You might want to say There is a child predator though. Incorrekt spehling might take away your crebidility. Know what I'm saying?

KH - get a life. A child predator is a little different than a car theif. You can replace a car, you cannot replace a child's innocence. You sound a little defensive about the whole thing. Anything we should know?

The CORRECT legal answer to your question is yes, you CAN get in trouble. Whether that is LEGAL trouble or not depends on the full extent of the facts.

If you are publishing only factual information and can provide proof of such, then publishing facts is not punishable under libel statutes.

If you publish something as fact which the affected party can prove is NOT fact, then you can face civil libel with means you will have to provide the court with mitigating circumstances or the other party will have to provide the court with a measure of 'damages'.

You can also be fined for placing the posters on public property such as telephone poles and signs without a license. or permit.

There's no law that says child molester can't live in certain neighborhoods (just a certain distance form schools). But, there is also no law to paintball a child molester without anyone reporting you.

There a child molester that lives by my friends house and we do s**t to his house all the time.

I won't tell if you don't. I'd want to know if a child molester was living in my neighborhood.

i would contact the local police to ask them what they can do to protect your kids and all of the others, and also to ask them if it is ok to do what you want to. you could just put something in everyone's mailbox though, which would prevent them from seeing their own flyer
