Because you are in the minority. You have enough self esteem that you don't feel the need to be a "follower", and you don't succumb to the peer pressure. Kudos! They are sheep, and one day might, or might not realize that. You've got one up on em'! There really are others out there like you. Do what you love, and you will find someone who loves the same thing! Peace!

Perhaps they feel quilty for their indulgement. I think people who rely on alcohol to "soothe their souls" or "escape their problems" or to "have a good time" are weak-minded. They're not strong enough to face life head-on with clear consciousness. They require a crutch. And they foolishly believe that a drug can bring them true happiness in life. Those people are not to be revered.
I too used to drink to have a good time when I was younger so I know what it's like. I don't drink at all now. I've matured past that self-limiting way of thinking.
People should not hassle you for not drinking. I think it's much more noble that you resist the temptation to drink with everyone else and to not "get a good buzz on".
Not to mention it's healthier not to go out and drink.

I accept you 100%, I am 25 and have only had one drink in 4 years, and that was wine at a wedding. I just don't see the appeal in it, it is expensive, loud, and the only real thing you get out of the deal is a headache,
I did go out a lot, I was a nightmare for my parents as a teenager, I know what i am missing, and I like it way better this way
Good for You! you have made a great choice

I had the same problem when I was younger. I never drank, ever. My friends accepted me but other people would get SO defensive!
I guess they know they shouldn't drink, they feel guilty or stupid for drinking too much and they want to drag you down to their level.
Cheer up -- as you get older (and hang around with more mature people) it will get to be less and less of an issue.
Good luck!

Often, people are not willing to accept those who don't follow the crowd. Independence scares the people who need to have the security of a group. Don't justify yourself to them. If you prefer not to drink and go to bars, find people who either share your views or are mature enough to understand and accept them.

I know what you mean, but you don't have to justify anything. If people have a problem with your not drinking that's their problem and not yours. Just be nice and don't let them get to you.
Many blessings.

Hey, I totally can dig a girl who doesn't drink. I don't drink either. But that is because I am a Christian. Anyways, right on, good choice.

Maybe because they feel guilty about their drinking. You don't have to justify yourself to anyone EVER if what you are doing or in your case what you are not doing is your choice.
Be who you are.

Cause they're jerks and they're miserable. They want to make you as miserable as they are. If they are your friends they should be cool with you not drinking
