Do i have to buy a new door knob for my rented room?

i was a bit drunk one night when i misplaced my roomkey. the landlady didn't have a spare key. i was thinking a door knob should have two keys, shouldn't it? there's no other way but to ask a housemate for a help. He went upstairs through a ladder from outside. he went inside my room through the window and opened my door..after a few minutes, i decided to lock my door so i could sleep but the door knob wasn't working at all...it was broken...i had no idea why...perhaps if the landlady had her spare key, it wouldn't be like that...she wanted me to buy a new one...it's okay with me to buy a new one but do i have the right to ask a share from her? i want to transfer to another boarding house soon...

You are an irresponsible tenant. Your landlady will be lucky to be rid of you. You were given a key, you should have made a duplicate. You've lost the key, you need to fix the knob. It will cost you ~$20

That is the problem with our world today, always wanting to pass the buck off onto someone else. Come on and take some responsibility! You have heard of that, it's where children grow-up and accept adulthood! Buy the lock, install it, give the landlord a key and quit weaseling out of your small problems!

Like the sign in the shop says, "you break it, you buy it." Now if it broke from normal wear and tear, that's on the landlord. I think you should not have to pay for it if you had done nothing different than you would normally would. However being a little drunk, well she can assume you tried to twist the crap out of it in the vain hopes of getting in. Best of luck anyhow.
