The good: Nice pay, you could open your own practice--be your own boss, if you like to talk you can do a lot of that, you can make a difference in other people's lives

The bad: Dependent patients could make it a 24/7 job, if you upset the wrong person their life--and possibly your career are screwed up, it takes some time to become an established professional, listening to depressed people day in and day out could depress you

I considered becoming a psychiatrist, but realized I am way too skeptical for a career like that. Every other person that came in I would label as a liar and get pissed off! So one-on-one work wouldn't really work for me...so I'm looking into research as a profession now. Still the psychiatric element but with a good amount of distance from patients.

Usually the pros are seen as regular office hours usually. Liability is not usually as high as other medical professions. I think the biggest con is, from my observation, is that psychiatry is not as well respected a field of medicine as others, such as neurology which is closely related even historically, and you have to do all the regular medical training first.

Pro´s: will get to that later
Con´s: you´ll be completely messed up in a couple of years
you´ll have no life
your world will ´shrink' to your peers only
you´ll learn to lie, lie, lie as your patients lie, lie, lie
then again, you might just fit the bill

Still thinking of the Pro´s...
Will get back to you on that (lie)
Get it?
Good fortune!
